Chris Jordan

Running the number – An american self-portrait is Chris Jordans Latest photography Project.

I randomy came across his work while researching a different project that had absolutly nothing to with his work, or mine, none the less I was impressed by his simple yet visually stunning concept. He has mearly taken statics from every day American consumerism and turned them into very intriuging pieces of work.

Oil Barrels, 2008

Depicts 28,000 42-gallon barrels, the amount of oil consumed in the United States every two minutes (equal to the flow of a medium-sized river).

On first glance I wasn’t sure what i was looking at, when I saw the second i thought it was fairly interesting, some kind of industrial psycaldelic image, then when i realised what the barrels represented i was blown away. Like I said it was so simple but to me, so well presented, astetically its pleaseing, but for me it works on another level, you can begins to grasp what 28,000 42-gallon barrels of oil looks like, and definatly had an impact on me.

I sat there and went though his entire work for this project, even told my friends about i was that impressed, it definatly made me think twice about my consumor habits and what I waste

Skull With Cigarette, 2007 [based on a painting by Van Gogh]
